Fab Bar |
From the Manchester's bars/pub interiors displayed the most effective are the images in which there is a subtle gleam of natural light on the floor intermixed with artificial light or the interior settings which used exclusively artificial lighting. Particularly Fab Bar which is a space-themed bar utilises artificial lighting and because of the long exposure and the movement of the lights there were circles painted onto the floor which reminded me of star light trails and so the artificial lighting juxtaposed extremely effectively and accentuated the atmosphere that this social/cultural hub interior was trying to displace. Its also interesting that no natural light is let in not only because of the aforementioned reasons but as its suggests that they are shutting themselves off from the real world and going to their own world, another existance, almost literally, this seems to be a prevalent theme within pub interiors the introduced idea through decoration and lighting which will suggest that you are safe within this place and comforting you that to leave would be foolish and nonsensical. Corbiers and as highlighted in the previous shoot for the Source bar image, as well as my visual and contextual research, it appears that the natural lighting can be subtle or even non-existant as the interior usually displaces another dimension and subverted message somewhere if you analyse and scrutinize the scene enough. Building up this range of pub interiors has shown this to me and improved my self awareness of the effect lighting plays within the scene not only aesthetically but on a conceptual and pragmatical level. In my next and final shoot I would like to really emphasize and make apparent the relationship between the lighting within the interior and what it displays about the social/cultural setting of the pub and in turn the relationship this has to us and the pubs place within our lives.
